Cygnet Theatre Announces The Cast and Creative Team of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, the Inaugural Show at The Joan.
Performances run September 10 – October 5, 2025
SAN DIEGO, CA – (July 28, 2025) – Cygnet Theatre proudly presents the haunting Broadway classic Follies by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by Sean Murray, the musical will run from September 10 to October 5, 2025, and will be the inaugural production of Cygnet Theatre’s contemporary, permanent home, The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center (The Joan) at Arts District Liberty Station in the Joseph Clayes III theater. Opening night is Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM (Pacific Time).
Set in a crumbling theatre slated for demolition, a group of former showgirls reunite for a final evening confronting ghosts of the past, unspoken regrets and the dreams they once chased. The musical features Sondheim’s acclaimed score, including the iconic “Broadway Baby” and “Losing My Mind.”
“Follies is a masterpiece of American musical theatre and the perfect production to inaugurate The Joan,” says Director Sean Murray. “We’re thrilled to reimagine this iconic musical in our brand-new home—a space that invites audiences deep into the emotional lives of these characters. With stunning visuals, deeply human performances, and the lush, unforgettable music of Stephen Sondheim, our production of Follies promises to open our twenty-first season with elegance, complexity, and theatrical magic.”
